The Ford Edge is a mighty SUV sporting a stylish exterior, beneath which sits a lot of strength and power. That's evident in the 3,500-pound Ford Edge towing capacity that can help you take a boat to the lake in Pocono Pines or Tobyhanna, or help a friend move in Scranton or Blakeslee.

To give our Mount Pocono customers more information about the Edge's towing capacity, and the features that can help create an easy towing experience, the Ray Price Ford team broke down everything you need to know in this guide.

Edge Towing Capacity: The Power Under the Hood

One of the biggest factors in a car's towing capacity is what's humming under the hood.

  • The Ford Edge offers drivers three engine options, each with a towing capacity of at least 2,000 pounds.
  • With the 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 engine, you'll generate 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, making for a thrilling driving experience, while still reaching a 2,000-pound towing capacity.
  • Keep in mind, however, that this trim does not make any factory- or dealer-installed towing equipment available.
  • If you want to reach the maximum towing capacity for the Edge, you have two choices: The 2.0L EcoBoost® I-4 engine generates 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, and the 3.5L V6 engine produces 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.

Either of these engines can tow 3,500 pounds with the Class II Tow Prep Package installed.

Ford Edge Towing and Trailering Packages

If you plan on towing with your Ford Edge, it's recommended that you add the Class II Towing and Trailering Package to reach your maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. This package is available on the SEL and Titanium trims.

When you add this package to your SUV, you may get several handy trailering tools, including:

  • A factory-installed trailer hitch receiver
  • Trailer Sway Control
  • A four-pin trailer wiring harness
  • Upgraded cooling fans
  • A radiator upgrade

Ask your Ford dealership what's included in the packages they sell, and how it can help you tow what you need to.

Ford Driver-Assist Features

The Ford Edge makes several driver-assist features available to help you have a positive towing experience.

  • Trailer Sway Control, for example, available with the Class II Towing and Trailering Package, applies precise braking and reduces engine torque to keep the trailer moving in the intended direction when encountering obstacles like winding roads or high cross-winds.
  • On the highway, you'll also have the available Blind Spot Information System to help you merge safely while carrying extra weight behind you. This system warns you of vehicles in your side blind spots, so that you know when it is, and isn't safe to make a lane change.
  • And, when you accelerate from a hard stop while facing uphill, standard Hill Start Assist keeps you firmly in place as you move your foot from the brake to the gas. This prevents you from rolling backward during this maneuver, which is helpful when you have a heavy trailer in tow.
