2018 Ford Edge in Burgundy VelvetWhen you're looking for a capable SUV to accompany you on your drives through Mount Pocono, Tobyhanna, and Scranton, you have some great choices in the Ford Edge, Chevy Traverse, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

However, which is the better choice for drivers near Pocono Pines and Blakeslee? Ray Price Ford compared the Ford Edge vs. Chevy Traverse vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee and found ourselves an answer.

Edge vs Traverse vs Grand Cherokee: Handling Capabilities

If you're shopping for an SUV, you're probably interested in a vehicle that doesn't back down from a challenge-and that's something you'll find in any of these vehicles.

  • The Ford Edge, Chevy Traverse, and Jeep Grand Cherokee all make a smart all-wheel drive (AWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD) systems available.
  • These part-time 4WD or AWD systems actively monitor your driving conditions and automatically redistribute torque between the front and rear wheels as necessary to improve your grip in low-traction conditions.
  • They all also feature roll stability control (RSC) technology that automatically corrects your steering and braking to prevent rollover when cruising down a winding mountain road.
  • Drivers in the Ford Edge, however, have an extra feature to help them navigate those Pennsylvania back roads.
  • This feature is called Curve Control and it acts as an extra failsafe before RSC has to kick in.
  • If this system senses that you're approaching a bend in the road too quickly, it'll automatically apply engine braking and adjust your steering to help you come around the bend safely.
  • This is not a feature that's available in the Traverse or Grand Cherokee.

Visibility in the Ford Edge, Chevy Traverse, and Jeep Grand Cherokee

2018 Ford Edge Technology FeaturesWhether you're navigating a busy parking lot, a rainy night, or a tight city street, you'll find several visibility features in the Ford Edge, Chevy Traverse, and Jeep Grand Cherokee to help you get a better view of the road ahead.

All three SUVs, for example, make rearview cameras available. While you should always turn around to check first, these cameras help improve your view of the space directly behind you when in reverse.

The Ford Edge and Jeep Grand Cherokee also make rain-sensing windshield wipers available. These automatically turn on and adjust their speed to match the rate of precipitation on the windshield, freeing you up to focus more on driving and navigation.

The Ford Edge makes 180-degree camera available, as well. This camera gives you a 180-degree view of the area ahead of you, so you can more safely turn onto a street where there's decreased visibility-a narrow city street with cars parked on the side of the road, for example.

Without a similar feature, drivers in the Traverse and Grand Cherokee may be more surprised by oncoming traffic when turning onto a side street.
