At Ray Price Ford, we know just how popular compact crossovers are for drivers around the Mount Pocono, Tobyhanna, and Blakeslee areas. Two of the most test-driven models currently on the market in Pocono Pines and Scranton are the 2020 Ford Escape and Honda CR-V.

Therefore, we put together this comparison of the 2020 Escape vs. 2019 CR-V to find out how they measure up. Keep reading until the end to see what we found.

Escape vs CR-V Exterior

When you see the Ford Escape or Honda CR-V drive by you on the street, you'll probably notice that both SUVs have a smooth exterior styling complete with rear spoilers that cut through wind resistance.

However, the 2020 Ford Escape has been treated to a redesign that gives it an even sleeker, more modern feel with sinewy lines almost reminiscent of an animal in mid-chase. The Honda CR-V hasn't been updated since 2017, so it may appear a bit more outdated in design.

Otherwise, the two SUVs are roughly the same size with a length of approximately 180.5 inches and a width of approximately 73 inches. The Escape and CR-V also have practical exterior features, such as an available panoramic sunroof and available hands-free liftgate access.

Advantage: The Ford Escape for its more updated exterior design!

Performance in the Ford Escape vs Honda CR-V

Next, let's take a look under the hood of the Ford Escape vs. Honda CR-V. Both SUVs come standard with front-wheel drive with a smart four-wheel drive (4WD) system available. This system actively monitors your roadway conditions and automatically adjusts torque distribution to improve traction control.

Both crossovers also have a 1.5L turbocharged engine. This is the top-tier engine on the Honda CR-V, delivering 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque.

The Ford Escape, on the other hand, equips you with the 1.5L EcoBoost® engine right out of the gate and includes it as a standard feature. It then gives you the option to upgrade to the 2.0L EcoBoost® turbocharged engine if you want more power. The 2.0L engine generates 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque.

Since it has a higher engine output, the Ford Escape also gives you more capability. It can tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds when properly equipped, while the Honda CR-V can only tow 1,500 pounds.

Advantage: The 2020 Escape for its improved engine output and increased towing capacity!

Honda CR-V vs Ford Escape Interior Technology

When you're out for a drive in your Ford Escape or Honda CR-V, the right infotainment system can make a big difference in how connected, engaged, and entertained you feel. Essentially, that's why we love that both SUVs offer advanced infotainment technology designed to enhance every drive.

For example, they both have an available touchscreen display in the center stack. For the Ford Escape, this is an 8-inch display, while the Honda CR-V has a 7-inch display.

With available Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™, both SUVs let you access your favorite smartphone apps through your infotainment touchscreen. Easily connect your phone to pull up your navigation, phone contacts, text messages, and internet radio streaming.

While both the Escape and CR-V make this data available to you via your touchscreen, the Ford Escape also offers it through the available Head-Up Display. This feature projects need-to-know info directly on the lower portion of your windshield. This way, you don't have to remove your eyes from the road ahead to stay informed.

Without a similar feature, drivers in the Honda CR-V may find themselves looking away from their path of travel more frequently.

Advantage: The Ford Escape for its bigger touchscreen and available Head-Up Display!

Safety Systems

If you're like many drivers in our area, then safety is a major concern of yours when deciding on which SUV you're going to drive. So, we love that the 2020 Ford Escape and Honda CR-V offer additional aids with their suites of collision-mitigation technologies. These includes features like:

  • Smart cruise control
  • Lane keeping
  • Forward collision mitigation

They also both have a blind spot monitor that provides a visual cue when another vehicle enters your side blind spot. This system can help you merge or change lanes more confidently. Also, the available rear cross traffic alert systems let you know when a vehicle is approaching from behind while you're in reverse.

Another feature the Escape and CR-V has available is automatic high beams. This feature lets you keep your attention focused on navigating along dark backroads instead of constantly adjusting your high beams.

They both have a forward collision warning system, as well. It alerts you to potential hazards up ahead and can even apply automatic emergency braking to try to avoid a collision.

The Ford Escape takes this a step further, though, with its available Evasive Steering Assist feature. It's designed to automatically steer you out of the way of an impending collision should braking alone not be enough to avoid impact.

While the two SUVs make a rearview camera available to help you back out of a parking space or into a parallel spot, only the Escape takes the wheel for you in these situations. With Active Park Assist 2.0, your Ford Escape will find an available parking spot for you and automatically steer into it. Simply follow the prompts to shift, accelerate, and brake, and let your Escape do the rest.

Advantage: The Ford Escape for its Evasive Steering Assist and Active Park Assist 2.0 features!

Will You Drive the Ford Escape or Honda CR-V?

Whether you drive the Ford Escape or Honda CR-V around Mount Pocono, Scranton, and Pocono Pines depends on your needs. However, when the team at Ray Price Ford compared the two crossovers, we found that the Escape has a bit more to offer your drives through Tobyhanna and Blakeslee.
