In 1966, Ford impressed the racing world when three of its GT40 Mk.ii racecars outpaced established names like Ferrari, Alpine, and Porsche to achieve a clean sweep of the podium at the 24 Hour of Le Mans. This year, Ford will have the chance to repeat history, as the ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest), organizers of the historic endurance race, announced the acceptance of all four Ford GT entries into the GTE Pro class.
“It was great to see all four Ford GTs up there on the Le Mans entry list today,” said Dave Pericak, Ford Performance global director, who attended this afternoon’s press conference in Paris. “Newcomers are by no means guaranteed an entry, whatever their history or ambitions, so we thank the ACO for giving Ford the opportunity for a four-car assault in June.”
The 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on June 18-19. Ford GT entries will sport numbers 66 through 69. Driver lineups will be announced at a later date.
