Soon, millions of drivers around the country will be able to control aspects of their Ford vehicles via smartphone app—including their 2010 model-year vehicles. What sorcery is this?!

Ford doesn't have a time machine to give its older models advanced tech that wasn't available at the time. What they do have is Ford SmartLink.

SmartLink plugs into your older Ford car, truck, or SUV, and enables:

  • Remote-access features via smartphone companion app, like remote start, lock, and unlock
  • 4G LTE hotspot able to connect eight devices to Wi-Fi
  • Health and security reports
  • Ability to find vehicle's location from smartphone

Most of these features only became available for 2017 model-year Ford vehicles, which were designed with a built-in modem for providing Wi-Fi connectivity. Ford SmartLink ensures that owners of pre-owned models get the same benefits, and helps maintain resale value of older models.
